Née au Lac-Saint-Jean, Marie-Paule Villeneuve a fait des études à l’Université de Sherbrooke en histoire et en philosophie. Elle a été journaliste et critique littéraire pour plusieurs journaux, dont Le Droit, La Presse et Le Devoir. L’écrivaine est également présidente de l’agence littéraire Alinéa, fondée en 2012. Publié en 1999, L’enfant cigarier, son premier roman, a remporté le prix Abitibi-Consolidated du Salon du livre du Saguenay–Lac‑Saint‑Jean.
